Beast’s Beast

April 28, 2010

Cookie is bored. Today she went to work with Tim at Beast Editorial and apparently she is not making good use of her time as his assistant, as you can see. I told her to at least pretend that she was busy doing something when it is slow. Maybe she is on her coffee break.

Beautiful

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, or just one…

Beautiful.

Beach Blanket Bulldog

April 26, 2010

It was very sunny this weekend in the East Bay. Cookie and I took the opportunity to bathe our bulldog bodies in the sun. Cookie didn’t seem to realize that she was supposed to lay ON the special doggy beach towel and not BY it. In this picture she reminds me of a beached baby whale. I wonder what Frankie and Annette would say about her sedentary shore antics. Zzzzzzzz………

Cookie takes Manhattan

April 22, 2010

Those of you who have read Tim’s facebook postings already know all about my Cookie’s rise to fame. It’s no rags to riches story. In fact, some may call it nepotism… I call it “destiny.”

One of my responsibilities at work is to design our New York Showroom for Old Navy. This most recent showroom was focused around Denim for Fall and Kids back-to-school clothes. While looking for cute graphics to enlarge for the  showroom walls, I came across an image from a girls’ graphic tee that showed a cat wearing glasses. I’m obviously more of a dog person, but I thought that the scholarly cat would be so funny to put on the girls’ wall. I started looking for a “dog” counter part, but could not find an image as tongue-in-cheek or suitable for the boys product. Until…I wised up and thought of my little superstar. To be fair, I must tell you that I appropriated the illustrated ‘thought bubbles’ from a t-shirt and combined it with my own high resolution photograph of Cookie. If you look closely, you can see  depictions of chewed on homework, a dog bone, and a tennis ball. In other words, all the things that dogs think about! Except pooping. Here is a picture of Our Girl juxtaposed with the large cat image. These canvases are 8ft x 8ft and highlight the kids product beautifully, if I do say so myself.

The PR showroom is meant to give the NYC magazine editors a sneak preview of the next seasons product, so only a select few people got to take in Cookie’s gorgeousness. But, there have been some whispers about featuring her likeness in the fall window displays! Keep your eyes peeled for Ol’ Sour Mug hawking some Old Navy back-to-school gear. It’s Cookie approved!

The English (Bulldog) Patient

April 10, 2010

We have been to the vet many times this past couple of years for Cookie, and I always bring along a file folder of all her medical records. Well, that file is getting pretty thick, so today I decided to create a pet vaccination/medical form that we can consult for an “at a glance” reference. I know you can download these forms or buy them online, but I think mine is really cute, and of course, bulldog centric. Since Cookie has several doctors on her “health care team” I wanted to customize this so that I could easily keep track of who did what. It’s also handy to have a written schedule of her various medications. I sent this form to my mom and my sister for their personal use, but then Tim suggested I post a version for my online readers. If you click on the form, you can drag it to your desk top and print it at 8.5″ x 11.” I hope you guys find this useful. Cookie wishes everyone a happy and healthy Spring!

She oughta be in pictures…

I have finally managed to get Cookie’s image into some of our marketing at Old Navy! Here are a bunch of outtakes from our photo shoot that I conducted on Monday. Cookie is used to having her picture taken, but for this occasion I was using a big ol’ professional camera in which she was very interested! She was all wiggly and jiggly. I will post the final image when it appears in our New York showroom. If she can make it there, she’ll make it anywhere!

Chag Pesach Sameach! Happy Passover!

A special thanks to Titus Brosnan-Knowles, esteemed rottweiler, for bequeathing Cookie this adorable yarmulke. Shalom.

Cookie’s health pupdate

April 1, 2010

Hello readers.

Dr. Barney called me yesterday with the results of Cookie’s excised little tumor. Dr. Barney said that it was a “circumscribed mammary ductal carcinoma.” The good news is that it was completely removed. The bad news is that it was not completely benign. That just means that we have to be extremely aware of recognizing any future tumors that may appear in her mammary glands (ie. we must “feel her up” once a month). The situation could have been a lot worse, so we are happy that we went ahead with surgery. The good doctor said that there is a 50% chance that we may see more of these during Cookie’s lifetime, and 50% that we won’t. Let’s hope its the latter!  An interesting thing to note is that the risk of a dog developing a mammary tumor is 0.5% if spayed before their first heat (approximately 6 months of age), 8% after their first heat, and 26% after their second heat. But, spaying does not provide a protective effect against mammary tumor development after 2 years of age. We know that Cookie was not spayed until she was about 4 years old.  So in the words of Bob Barker “….help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered. Goodbye, everybody!”
