Hey, did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?

May 7, 2009 by cookie04

picture-21Oh…won’t you tell her that I love her! Have you ever seen such a beautiful face? This photo was taken by Tim’s co-worker, Connor, with his new camera. I know I am biased, but I really think this is the face of an angel. Keep smiling, Cookie!

My little dog – a heartbeat at my feet.

039_weddingCookie Crumbs is back from hiatus. Oh, and love is in the air! On April 18th, Tim and I got married, and Cookie was our special flower girl/ring bearer. The wedding was beautiful, the weather was perfect and the Bulldog was relaxed, as you can see. This hitching went off without a hitch! (If you don’t count when Cookie dropped Tim’s ring in the driveway and we discovered it only moments before walking down the aisle). We are still getting all our photos organized, so keep your eyes peeled for more cuteness in future blog postings!

We are the champions, my friends!

A Hard Day’s Night

April 1, 2009 by cookie04

sleepyI took this snapshot of Cookie as we drove home from work today. As you can see she must have worked like a dog! Tim and Cookie had a meeting “off site” today which meant lots of new people, smells and crumbs! According to Tim, the highlights included: barking at strangers, scrounging for grains of Spanish rice after lunch, and trying to find a place to poop where there was no grass or dirt. All of these things, combined with the absence of her customary morning, noon and early evening naps, make for a very exhausted Bullie. Tonight I hope we will all finally sleep, well, … like logs!

Bulldog BBQ & Steakhouse

March 31, 2009 by cookie04

img_1808I’m not the biggest fan of BBQ, or steak, for that matter, but I LOVE Bulldogs! Hence, our trip to the Bulldog BBQ Steakhouse in Martinez, California. Tim and I drove to Martinez last week to get our marriage license and made the wonderful discovery of the aforementioned restaurant. It was closed at the time, so we decided to make the 25 minute drive from Richmond a few evenings later to sample their Q’d vittles. I ordered the Bulldog Burger, well done, which was delicious and bountifully accompanied by salty, greasy, yummy french fries. The portions were so large, I took home half of my meal and Tim ate it the next day for lunch. Tim ordered the rib-eye steak. He said it was a bit fatty, and would have preferred the burger. They do have really good beer on tap. The most interesting thing about this restaurant is that they have Bulldog figurines scattered about, but we did not see any live Bulldogs. I even checked the outdoor seating on the back patio. Bulldog BBQ Steakhouse is perfectly situated on the corner of Main Street and Castro in old downtown Martinez, among quaint antique stores, and Mom and Pop diners. I don’t think I would make a special trip to the steakhouse again, but if you are in Martinez shopping downtown, you should hitch your Bulldog and stop in for lunch. Just don’t forget to tell passerbys that your pooch is NOT on the menu.

picture-1Some of my readers already received a special message about a contest that Cookie and I entered. Here is a snapshot of our entry. It’s for a Pet-Look-Alike Contest being hosted by SF Gate, which is the online affiliate of the San Francisco Chronicle. The grand-prize winner will pocket a $100 gift certificate from Pet Food Express, a 30-minute gift coupon from Happy Hounds Massage (which includes the treatment of all small domestic animals) and a free (human) haircut (valued at $60) and an assortment of Bumble and Bumble hair care products (valued at $60) from Glamarama Hair Salon in San Francisco. Three runners up will each take home a $50 gift certificate from Pet Food Express. To read more about the contest rules, go to www.sfgate.com and search “pet-look-alike contest.” You can look at the gallery of entries, and see for yourself who looks most like their pets. The winner will be announced at the beginning of April. I really think we have a shot at it, don’t you?

Pressing Our Luck

Rockabye Bulldog

February 18, 2009 by cookie04

img_17621Usually I post about Cookie’s “sassy” side. But today, I will talk about how she is sweet. These days she has taken to falling asleep on Tim’s chest at night while we are watching TV. What ensues is often more entertaining than our network programing, and certainly just as loud. Oh, she will snore and coo, and doze and sigh. She will awaken periodically and lick her dad’s whiskery face. She will lay her cheek on his cheek and drool quietly. Then she will startle herself by letting out a short toot or two. It’s a scene I never tire of watching. Sleep tight, Cookie!

Wipe Your Paws!

February 15, 2009 by cookie04

img_17351Lately it has been raining cats and bulldogs in our neck of the woods. Not good news for a little four-footed girl who needs her regular potty breaks and is accustomed to a very mild climate in which to do her doggy business. However, there is a silver lining to this storm cloud situation: California is in the middle of a drought so the downpour will help AND Cookie finally has a chance to model her new red belted trench raincoat from Old Navy Dog Supply! In the picture above, she is wearing it over her St. Valentine’s Day “Heart breaker” t-shirt (also from Old Navy) so she looks extra festive. Stay dry Cookie, and don’t forget to wipe your paws!

Polo Santa Cruz, 2000 – 2009

Tim was on the roof during the inspection of our house before we bought it and this is what he saw when he looked down into the neighbor’s yard: a big male bulldog looking up at him with surprise. Tim snapped this photo and immediately e-mailed me at work. It was a sign: we had to buy this house so that we could meet Polo!

Sadly, we learned that Polo passed away last week. Apparently it happened very fast and one morning when the family awoke, Polo wasn’t snoring anymore. They knew he was gone. He was only 9 years old. It has been a very sad week for our neighbors and a sad weekend for us, because we just found out this devastating news yesterday. But, the important thing to remember is that he had a very full and happy life with a loving family who treated him as a member of their own.

Polo was very comical. He had a short low bark that sounded like this: “ROWF. ROWF. ROWF.” He would stick his head through the hole in the fence to watch Tim mow the lawn. The first time I saw this I could not believe my eyes it was so hilarious! Recently, we joked about installing a gilded oval frame around his peephole with a regal inscription announcing his presence.

When he went missing last spring, Tim went into rescue mode, and eventually found him by placing a Craigslist ad. We were as worried about him as his own family was. It was a relief to everyone when he turned up casually resting in a neighbors driveway, a little hungry and a little sleepy,

sspx0070but otherwise safe and unharmed. And now he has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Maybe he is hanging around with Petula, Mazzy, Diesel, Bella and Buddy, our recently and dearly departed animal friends. I hope so. Maybe he is frolicking around the overgrown green grasses of Doggy Heaven, chasing and barking at a holy lawnmower. That would be nice.

Goodbye Polo. We will miss you.
