Toe-tally awesome!

This is a mini health ‘pupdate’ for our dear readers. In my last post, I wrote about Cookie’s most recent malady, “The mysterious case of the missing toenail.” At the time, it appeared to me that she was recovering nicely. However, on Saturday morning, we noticed that Our Girl was acting really schmoopy. She seemed sad and depressed and was just not her usual self (a mother knows). Her afflicted digit also looked slightly puffy and pink leading me to assess that she might be feeling some pain due to an oncoming infection. So, rather than risking it, we called up our good friends at Barney and Russum Animal Clinic in Fairfield and paid them a visit in the afternoon. Let me just say that we love the medical staff there! They were able to get us in right away and the good doctor prescribed some antibiotics to ward off infection.  Dr. Veltri said it was a good thing that we brought Cookie in because an open wound on the toe, due to a damaged nail, is very susceptible to debris and a little infection could spread to the bone causing more serious problems.

I can tell Cookie is feeling much better already after only two days of taking the medication. Her toe is not swollen or red, she has not been licking her paw, and she has that peppy spring in her step once again. Not to mention that rosy glow in her cheeks.

So, there you are. We are once again tiptoeing through the tulips just in time for Chinese New Year.

Much health and happiness to you and yours in this Year of the Dragon. Above, Cookie sports her lucky red raincoat as we commute to work in The City. Gung hay fat choy!
