I’m not the biggest fan of BBQ, or steak, for that matter, but I LOVE Bulldogs! Hence, our trip to the Bulldog BBQ Steakhouse in Martinez, California. Tim and I drove to Martinez last week to get our marriage license and made the wonderful discovery of the aforementioned restaurant. It was closed at the time, so we decided to make the 25 minute drive from Richmond a few evenings later to sample their Q’d vittles. I ordered the Bulldog Burger, well done, which was delicious and bountifully accompanied by salty, greasy, yummy french fries. The portions were so large, I took home half of my meal and Tim ate it the next day for lunch. Tim ordered the rib-eye steak. He said it was a bit fatty, and would have preferred the burger. They do have really good beer on tap. The most interesting thing about this restaurant is that they have Bulldog figurines scattered about, but we did not see any live Bulldogs. I even checked the outdoor seating on the back patio. Bulldog BBQ Steakhouse is perfectly situated on the corner of Main Street and Castro in old downtown Martinez, among quaint antique stores, and Mom and Pop diners. I don’t think I would make a special trip to the steakhouse again, but if you are in Martinez shopping downtown, you should hitch your Bulldog and stop in for lunch. Just don’t forget to tell passerbys that your pooch is NOT on the menu.
