If it’s not Scottish, it’s Crap! (or Sashay, Cookay!)

July 30, 2008

How do you like this cute picture of our Cookie wearing her new plaid outerwear from Old Navy Dog Supply? (I debated on posting this photo as it is a bit blurry, but really, this is how I see her in my mind’s eye…all Liz Taylor-y White Diamonds…a vision so fuzzily perfect to behold).

Being a progressive mommy, I like to foster Cookie’s interests and talents such as the recently discovered “wabbit hunting.” I think she looks fetching in her hunting gear and so does she judging by the way she “gives us a twirl” to show us the rear view. I especially like the way her tail is so pronounced in this photo. And zippered pockets for stylishly carrying poopie bags too? Girl, you betta work!

Little Bulldog on the Prairie

July 27, 2008

Here are some stills of the opening credits of a new show I’m developing called, Little Dog on the Prairie. I can’t give you too much information about it except a loose description of the plot and characters: “The life and adventures of a pioneer bulldog family in the 19th century American West.” The main story will usually revolve around a precocious bulldog (played by Cookie) called “Half Cup,” but involves several other characters that make up the friendly community of Peanut Butter Bone Grove, including teacher Miss Lucy K, Dr. Winston Wenzl, and mercantile owner Polo S.C., canine patriarch of the primary rivals/meddling neighbors of this pioneer bulldog family. Of course, there is Half Cup’s relationship with her “Paw” that is an integral part of the story. She is always learning valuable lessons from him in her day to day adventures.

I don’t think America has ever seen a show like this, so I predict high public interest and even higher Neilson ratings! Without revealing too much more, I’ve included a link that has inspired my composition of the music for opening credits. I’ll just change a few notes here and there and cross my paws for good luck!

Be vewy, vewy, quiet, I’m hunting wabbits

July 27, 2008

Yesterday we took Cookie to get her bath at Mudpuppy’s at Point Isabel. It was a beautiful morning and we enjoyed pastries and Frosty Paws at the cafe after the scrub down. Cookie looked shiny white and was as soft as velvet, so we decided to show her off by letting her prance around the grassy knoll. She promptly stuck her head in a muddy hole looking for a critter. Looking for wabbits, I guess. She didn’t find any wabbits, but from the look of her face, she enjoyed the hunt anyway.

All in all it was a very relaxing way to start our weekend after a long five days at the office. Or as Elmer Fudd would say, “West and wewaxation at wast!”

Big Poppy and Poppy Seed hit the road!

July 16, 2008

“Everybody’s talking at me
I don’t hear a word they’re saying
Only the echoes of my mind”

I imagine that these Harry Nilsson lyrics are what’s streaming through Cookie’s brain in this picture as we drive through the Sierras. For the record, Mrs. Poppy is sitting in the back seat.

Last week we hit the road for Cheyenne, Wyoming for my cousin’s wedding. It was a wonderful time and Cookie was a very well behaved lady bulldog. She had a lot of “firsts” in terms of experiences: First car-car ride in a convertible, first drive-thru burger pick up at In-N-Out, first chase of a bunny rabbit at Gunslinger Square in Old Downtown Cheyenne, and first “off-leash prowl” at the Capitol building.

She was a little confused at the hotels, but met a lot of people and mostly just soaked up all the attention. She did alright on the road, mostly sleeping throughout the 16 hour drive, but, she was very hot in Nevada. It’s a good thing she had her Cowboy Kerchief which any good cowgirl always keeps handy for survival situations. In this picture, we see Our Girl cooling off under her bandana that has been soaked in cool spring water.

All in all, we learned that Cookie is an easy going roadtripper. We learned that she hates most hotels (sorry Plains Hotel for the little present by the third floor elevator), she prefers riding shotgun and while in the car, she will only receive tepid bottled water by the capful while reclining. Anything for the Queen Of The Road!

Guess who’s coming to dinner!?!

cookie\'s coming out!

I snapped this adorable picture of Cookie poking her face out of the front flap in her travel crate. We always use the crate for safety when traveling in the Honda CRX, but sometimes a bulldog needs to feel the cool breeze against her jowls. Also, mommy likes to pet her velvety head at stop lights.
